- Conducting a routine fire safety check
A Routine Fire Safety Check consists of a simple walk around your house before going to bed, keeping an eye out for obvious dangers.
A Fire Safety Check will only take a couple of minutes, but it could mean the difference between life and death.
On your check, make sure to do the following:
- Unplug all unnecessary electrical appliances
- Turn off all unnecessary gas appliances
- Make sure all candles and naked flames are extinguished
- Place a spark guard in front of any fire place
- Empty all ashtrays
- Ensure all escape routes are completely clear of obstructions
- Close all doors to reduce the spread of fire and smoke
